Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that his dispute with Donald Trump last week was "regrettable," that he was willing to work with the US president to achieve long-term peace, and that it was "time to make things right."
The statement came after Washington halted military aid to Kyiv in an unexpected move overnight, days after Zelensky's talks with Trump devolved into acrimony, prompting the US secretary of state to urge the Ukrainian leader to apologize.
"Our meeting in Washington at the White House on Friday did not go as planned. It is unfortunate that it happened this way. "It is time to make things right," Zelensky wrote on X.
"My team and I are ready to work under President Trump's strong leadership to achieve long-term peace," he stated.
His statement made no mention of the United States' suspension of military assistance, the latest move by Trump's administration to reverse US policy on the Ukraine conflict and take a more conciliatory stance toward Moscow.
The Ukrainian leader stated that Kyiv is eager in future cooperation and communication with the United States.
"We genuinely appreciate how much America has done to assist Ukraine keep its sovereignty and independence," he stated.
"No one wants an eternal conflict. Ukraine is ready to begin negotiations as soon as feasible in order to bring long-term peace closer. "Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians," he stated.
